THE IRREPRESSIBLE
JULIA
This is chiefly the
story of Julia, kind-hearted, incautious and impulsive, who is just barely
old enough to have a grown daughter. Susan, the daughter, has been brought up by
her grandparents who, according to 'their lights, are eminently better
preceptors of youth than Julia. Susan has grown up to be a prig, but for all that, a very lovely
prig. Julia has by no means abandoned her daughter. When a suitor appears on
Susan's horizon,
she promptly sends for Julia to come and tell her what to do. It is typical of
Julia that she should become involved with five trapeze artists on the way. Equally typical it
is for her to grow bored in the small town and plan an excursion to Aix to refill
her empty purse at the casino. To find the casino closed, and to get the money home by a
bit of modified larceny, which includes entering a lingerie shop by the front door and leaving by the back, is for Julia only a
situation well met.
